WordCamp UK 2008

This website runs on the WordPress open source content management system. WordPress a great piece of opensource software. It was originally developed as a simple blogging tool, however it is now a very comprehensive and flexible content management system and is really well supported both by the developers Automattic and the WordPress user community.

Last week I attended the first WordCamp in the UK for a weekend devoted to WordPress. There was a very good mix of people including designers, developers, bloggers, and business users. There was a great sense of community and everyone was very friendly.

I have been greatly inspired by the event to further develop my WordPress skills. Since getting back home I have already created a few simple widget plugins for a couple of the sites I have been working on and I am thinking of ways to better utilise this great content management system. I am currently reading a book on WP theming, WordPress Theme Design, to help fill some gaps in my knowledge.
